PRP and Stem cell therapy for orthopedic conditions

In our complex and dynamic bodies, there is an intricate dance of cellular and chemical activity that promotes healing and repair of damaged tissues. This includes muscles, tendons, ligaments, bone and cartilage injuries. When the above tissues become damaged or during inevitable aging, their reparative mechanisms become less effective over time.

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy can help injured joints and other problems. It uses parts of your own blood to reduce pain and speed up healing. The process begins with a sample of your blood, which is then spun at 30 mph in a small machine called a centrifuge. This separates the blood into three different levels; platelets, plasma, and red and white blood cells. The platelets are then concentrated and mixed with some of the plasma from your blood. This mixture is called "platelet rich plasma." The doctor then injects this mixture into the site of your injury.

Unlike normal cells, stem cells naturally have the ability to differentiate into a specific type of cell. They also are capable of repairing and regenerating a variety of damaged tissue. The Mesenchymal stem cells are a particular form of cells that can produce bone, cartilage, ligament, and tendon tissues. Found in your bone marrow, these cells produce a variety of chemicals (growth factors and cytokines) that signal other cells to repair, decrease inflammation, and inhibit the breakdown of tissues.

How can Stem Cell Therapy Help You?

  • Orthopedic conditions that have been treated and studies using stem cells include acute and chronic injuries of muscle, tendon, ligaments, bone, and cartilage.

  • Mild to moderate osteoarthritis or degenerative disease of joints, especially the hip and knee

  • Tendon injuries, including partial tears of the rotator cuff of the shoulder, tennis elbow, and achilles tendon injuries.

  • Back pain related to degenerative disc and facet joint

What is the goal of Stem Cell and PRP therapy?

  • Reduce pain and improve function without the need for surgery.
